Cisco wants to help businesses manage your networks, both wired and wireless, from the cloud. This is the goal of the effort announced by Cisco Networking Cisco Cloud Managed to your live event in Milan on January 28.
At the heart of the initiative is managed technology Cloud Networking Cisco has acquired through its 1.2 billion acquisition of cloud provider Meraki Wi-Fi in 2012. There are a lot of infrastructure that has continued to manage the prem, Rob Soderbery, SVP Business Products and Solutions Cisco, said during a briefing with reporters and analysts. Cloud Managed IT is a strategy that will allow us to implement a system based on cloud infrastructure on-prem model.
Meraki Soderbery this platform can extend beyond the simple management of public Wi-Fi. The new effort Meraki to manage change, wireless infrastructure and router. The service is also enabled with some advanced features, including Iwan (Intelligent WAN) capable of providing routing services defined by software. There will also be advanced analysis capabilities.
Safety is a key element in the effort Cloud Managed Cisco Networking. Soderbery said to be complete unified threat management (UTM), Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) and capabilities. This content filter includes Cisco IP Sourcefire and safety, as well as all our technology assessment threats, Soderbery said.
Mobile Device Management (MDM) is another key element of Managed Cloud, enabling organizations to meet the challenge of BYOD. Todd Nightingale, vice president and general manager of Cisco Meraki said with MDM, the platform now offers a wide visibility into IT infrastructure.
Cisco platform Meraki's all built on the Nightingale referred to as a true native cloud. The Meraki infrastructure was built as a cloud infrastructure, from day one, from scratch, Nightingale said. Although the Meraki Cloud infrastructure is still not being taken advantage of extensive experience Cisco OpenStack cloud. Cisco is one of the main participants in the OpenStack cloud platform effort of multiple stakeholders. Cisco has enabled its UCS servers part of a integrated OpenStack distribution, thought that is not what is running Meraki.
Actually, we are seeing some of the new UCS platform for the first time as part of Meraki Cloud, Nightingale said. Meraki Cloud runs as a model highly distributed and to date, have always cultivated in the space of the public cloud, then we are not taking too many steps towards OpenStack model.Soderberry added that Cisco has been a pioneer in the use of OpenStack and is a fundamental part of the initiative InterCloud Cisco federated cloud.
